Château 19th century

Réf 1737 - Brionnais, Burgundy

Situated on five acres, the family decided to build this substantial house in the Brionnais around 1860. They eschewed the neo-Gothic then in vogue, and opted instead for an Italian style, more open and light.

The long covered balcony overlooking the park with its stone columns precedes the main living area, which has a large living room, a small salon, dining room office, spacious kitchen, pantry, and then upstairs six bedrooms and a large bathroom.

Each room has its own fireplace, and the parquet floors are varied in pattern and design, and all use fine and unusual woods. The courtyard, accessible from the kitchen, has its conservatory, while at lower ground level a series of vaulted wine cellars.

Outbuildings frame one end of the courtyard, and there is a three-room caretaker's house.

Five acres of land, with a shaded lime-tree walk, cypresses and at the far end an orchard and a copse. The view is splendid: in the nearground the village with its lovely Romanesque church, and beyond it the hills and vales of this lush countryside, some of the loveliest in the whole of Burgundy, though tucked away in its South-West corner.
