Country House, 19th century. Situated on an acre-plus. Originally a hunting lodge.

This house is a bit more than a mere place to rest the dogs, clean the guns and have a bite to eat, if that is the image that the term "hunting lodge" conveys. For this house, built in wooded countryside not far from Autun in the mid 19th century, is approached by a long avenue of tall trees and has a certain allure.

It is not a very large house: the dining room, the main room when the house was built, is still the main room today, with a smaller salon and a modern kitchen, plus a bedroom in a small extension of the house added in the original style in 1992.

French windows open from the reception rooms into the garden. Upstairs, an office, library, two bedrooms with bathroom. Oil-fired central heating throughout.

The grounds are over an acre in size, surrounded by walls, and containing - as one would expect - kennels, and accommodation for the horses.

There is also a heated swimming pool, not perhaps in the original spirit of the house, but a welcome refinement today. And also a double garage. In short an agreeable house, slightly chateau in character, but of modest dimensions, in a private and quiet situation.
